Beckoned Beyond, by Jennifer Weigel

October daily special, in case you couldn’t get enough of all the creative content craziness from Jennifer Weigel we’re posting one a day for the whole of the month!

Death opens a door into the abyss,
Forever hungry, a mouth yawning wide.
Though I try to evade its reach, I miss;
Losing my footing, I stumble inside.

Everyone succumbs eventually;
In the end, the grave will come for us all,
Death’s portal isn’t something you can flee,
For that door shall appear at your own fall.

You’ll lie with the worms, body reducing –
Bit by bit consumed, stripped away to bone.
You might think it cold or fear-inducing,
But you’d be wrong, it’s more like going home.

There’s comfort in knowing all things must end.
Life’s far too short to waste the time you spend.
