My favorite horror Instagram accounts

Like most people, I spend way too much time on Instagram. Especially at night, in bed, in the dark. When I damned well know I should be sleeping.

Sleep is for the weak.

Being the little horror goblin that I am, the algorithm often gives me delicious bits of terror. Sometimes when I’m not expecting it, but that’s alright. Who doesn’t love having the piss scared out of them?

Today, I want to share with you my five favorite horror accounts to follow on Instagram. Aside from ours, of course. They all tell a great horror story in small bites.

Don’t run films

Welcome to Shadow Springs, where everything is trying to kill you.

This account shows analog horror stories, often starting with an emergency broadcast message. A bit overdone, but I’m a sucker for it. It looks into ‘disappearances, ’ dark creatures in the woods, and the Man With The Yellow Umbrella.

My only real complaint is that there are only six videos on the account so far. But, of course, this is indie work. It’s going to come slowly. As an indie creator myself, I can relate.

It’s Heidi Wong

The chances are good that if you’re on Instagram, you’re already following Heidi. If not, sort that shit out.

Heidi does a little bit of everything, horror-wise. She gives succinct descriptions of horror films, acts out original stories, and just slays with horror fashion. Her work is twisted in the best way possible, and I am here for it.

Foggy99967

If there was an award for the account that had most frequently jump-scared me, this would be the winner. Nothing like opening Instagram to be greeted by someone’s handmade Jeff The Killer mask. Ten out of ten experience.

The storyline for this one is fairly new. It’s about a person who’s being menaced by sentient, rotting animatronics. They found said animatronics in the Appalachian woods.

Don’t take things from there!

In addition to storyline posts, we’re also treated to some behind-the-scenes footage of the animatronic creations. Sometimes, these are even creepier than the story.

Tom Savini would be so proud.

Adam Ellis

Probably best known for his Dear David story or his work at BuzzFeed, Ellis writes some truly creepy horror cartoons. He’s published two books of them so far, both of which I’ve read and love. He posts just enough of his horror content on Instagram to keep me following.

Something about his silly cartoonish style blends perfectly with the horror story he’s telling. It’s magical.

Lespuls

I started following this account for the story You Can’t Run Forever, Darling. That story is completed and really fantastic. It’s about a little girl running from a family curse.

Fortunately, a new story has started. Actually, I think there are a few now. They all have the same dark, whimsical vibe that is just fantastic. I can’t recommend it enough.
